~ 66.8% respondents agree Democratic Development is preferable to Government Efficiency ~ 75.5% respondents agree Environment Conservation is preferred to Economic Growth ~ 70.3% respondents agree Pay more tax for Environment Conservation Civic Engagement and Seeking Political Information : ~ 71.3% respondents never participate in Demonstrations or Rallies since 1997 ~ 85.7% respondents are aware of Demonstrations or Rallies to be Organized ~ Overall, respondents (post-90s, post-80s and post-70s) mentioned the channels for learning about Demonstrations or Rallies to be organized are Television Programs (72.6%) and Newspapers (59.0%). ~ Overall, the respondents of Electronic Communications Learn about Demonstrations or Rallies to be organized (post-90s, post-80s and post-70s) are Specific website or online forum (57.3%) and Facebook (43.1%). Voting Behavior in the Legislative Council By-election Held on 16 May 2010 ~ 77.0% respondents (Post-90s) are not registered to vote in By-election; 66.0% (Post-80s) and 75.4% (Post-70s) are registered to vote. ~ 68.4% respondents voted in LegCo By-election held on 16-5-2010 ~ Overall, the percentages choosing between two reasons for casting a vote in By-election are 46% for civil responsibility and 37.4%for supporting a simulated referendum. 2. Identity and Political Trust : ~ 81.8% respondents agree or strongly identified as Hong Konger (Indigenous Identity) ~ 71.7% respondents agree or strongly identified as Chinese (National Identity) ~ 44.6% respondents trust or strongly trust Central Government 3. Attitudes Toward Education and Employment in the Mainland : ~ 58.2% respondents accept or strongly accept to pursue further studies in the Mainland ~ 60.4% respondents accept or strongly accept to take up employment in the Mainland 4. Block Upward Mobility as a Factor in Negative Sentiments among Youth : ~ 49.8% respondents perceive moderate opportunities available to same age cohort for personal development in Hong Kong ~ 41.1% of the post-90s and 50.2% of the post-70s expect that their future would be worse than now, while 44.6% of the post-80s expect their future would be the same. |
有關建議 | ~ Social unrest cannot be deduced from demographic background. We have to identity and understand the conditions and process of how these young people have come to acquire radical values and attitudes. ~ Policymakers may or may not respond to the sizeable minority views, but the choice made should be based on careful calculation but not paranoia. ~ The presence of discontents and radical dispositions, if not actual radical behavior, would be an important parameter for policymakers to consider when riding over major policy debates. |
