主要數字、結果撮要 | ~ 44.5% of the respondents considered that most people could be trusted in World Values Survey (WVS) Wave 7. The weak trust specifically in strangers and people of different nationalities, 11% gave the positive evaluation about the impact of migrants. While 54% believed that migrants could strengthen cultural diversity, 68% worried migration led to social conflict, 52% more crimes and 48% unemployment. ~ Public confidence in most institutions was low and declined: Trust to HKSAR government (drop from 60% in wave 6 to 44% in wave 7); Legislative council (73% did not trust); Police (Trust quite a lot: 71% in wave 5 to 48% in wave 7; Great deal: 12% in wave 5 to 6.4% in wave 7); Press and the television (71% in wave 5 to 38% in wave 7). ~ The mean score of important to live in a place that is governed democratically with a 10 point scale (a higher score the higher importance) is 7.47; 86% of respondents considered very important or rather important to honest elections. ~ 60% of respondents “very proud” and “quite proud” to their sense of pride of being Hong Kong people, 46% identified themselves as “Hongkonger” and 30% as “Hongkonger in China. ~ Age, view on the occupy protests, and cultural identity are strong predictors to trust in HKSAR government. Respondents who aged 50 or below (particularly aged between 25- 39) (25-29: 37.7%; 30-39: 38.9%), supported the occupy protest (Very Support people trust toward government: 13.6%; Somewhat support people trust toward government: 32.6%;) , and 32.2% identified themselves as “Hongkonger” trust in the HKSAR government verse 74,5% identified themselves as “Chinese” trust in the HKSAR government. |
有關建議 | ~ Government should continue support those reseat to collect the opinions and the validity and robustness of public opinion data to identify the obstacles to governance in HKSAR. ~ the government should identify and form strategic partnerships with more trusted civil society or quasi-government organizations to engage with the public and transform their attitudes. ~ Local authorities should extend support to community programs to cultivate social capital and increase the sense of political efficiency of the citizens, particularly among the youth; also promote the ideas of social tolerance and inclusion through civic education program. ~ The government could explore and develop platforms to enhance responsive and citizen-centric local governance. |
