主要數字、結果撮要 | ~ On saving habits, 54.60% are identified as occasional savers which 43.40% save only when there’s a surplus and 11.20% save only when there’s a specific needs, 33% have a regular saving habit and 13% don’t save their money at all. ~ For regular savers, the reasons of saving, 51.52% is for developing a saving habit, 40% is for emergency, 27.27% is for education, 24.85% is for big purchases, 9.70% is under the suggestions of their own parents/ friends/ teachers, 1.82% is other reasons. ~ For non-regular savers, the reasons of not saving, 49.55% reported that they can’t save because their income/ allowance are too low, 34.33% cannot resist the temptation to spend, 24.48% don’t see the point in saving, 5.37% don’t trust financial institutions, 4.78% don’t know why. ~ On money management, 59% have a budget, 41% don’t, 42% keep track of expense, 58% don’t. ~ On financial goal, 68% reported yes and 32% no; for financial goal, 23.60% reported for traveling, 18.40% for purchasing consumer goods, 14.20% for pursuing further studies, 5.60% for be prepared for emergency, 3.80% for buying a property, 1.20% for buying a car, 1% for starting their own business. ~ for goal-setters, 92.33% have taken action to achieve their financial goals, 7.67% no; for those who have taken action, 69.91% cut back on spending, 58.41% increased savings, 14.45% looked for work, 5.31% prepared a plan of action, 3.24% made investments, 0.3% others. ~ On financial knowledge, 40% scored medium, answered 5-6 questions correctly out of 9, 37.2% scored high, which is 7-9 correct answers and 22.80% scored low, which is less than 5. ~ On financial attitude towards money usage, 62.40% before buying something will carefully consider whether can they afford it, 26.60% find it more satisfying to spend money than to save it for the future, 26.60% tend to live for today and let tomorrow take care of itself and 7% purchase things only to impress others. ~ On financial towards financial management and planning, 57.40% keep a close personal watch on their financial affairs, 45.40% set a long term financial goals and strive to achieve them, 11% find that financial planning is only important for those who have a lot of money. ~ On financial education, 59.20% think they could benefit some personal finance education, 51.40% have their parents discuss with, on how to manage financial matter when they are going up and 34.40% think they are financially literate. ~ On financial education topics, 58.60% prefer about saving money, 45.2% prefer about setting and achieving financial goals, 33.8% prefer about managing credit status and health and 32.8% prefer about understanding financial products and services for investment. ~ On preferred educational institution, 67% prefer schools and educational institutes, 13.20% prefer banks or other types of financial institutions, 13.20% prefer government entities, 6.60% prefer non-government organizations. |
有關建議 | ~ There’s a need for financial education for youth, especially for the low income family and it should start as young as possible. ~ The financial education should be holistic, encompassing values and attitudes and go beyond conveying knowledge, take in real world problem scenarios. ~ The priority of financial education should be saving and the next is long term financial planning, further area of study should be focus on debt management. ~ School should be the pioneer in promoting and strengthening financial education, actively look for opportunity to teach money matters and more support can be given to schools. ~ Parents’ role in encouraging good money habits since young, they should create awareness. |
